MHP: 15 killed in crashes over Labor Day Holiday Travel Period
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Fifteen people died in car crashes in multiple counties over the Labor Day Holiday Travel Period, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
This includes the bus crash that occurred in Warren County over the weekend, resulting in the death of seven people.

On Friday in Grenada County, 62-year-old Barry Campbell of Grenada was traveling east on Highway 8 when the vehicle he was driving left the highway and collided with an embankment. This happened around 9:54 a.m.
Robert Noah, an 18-year-old student at Madison-Ridgeland Academy, was also killed in a crash in Grenada County.
On Saturday in Stone County, a Brandon woman – 34-year-old Jamie Lynn Sullivan – was killed in a single-vehicle crash after the car, driven by 37-year-old Kristen Arendale, left Highway 49 north and overturned.
On Labor Day in Wilkinson County around 9:15 a.m., a 2014 Freightliner roll-off driven by 35-year-old Lamonthan Chapman of Gloster, Mississippi, was traveling south on Highway 563 when it left the roadway and overturned.
MHP says he, along with the passenger, who was airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, were not wearing a seatbelt.
In Prentiss County, a 2021 Ford Expedition driven by 37-year-old Charles Thomas of Holly Springs, Mississippi, was traveling south on Highway 365 when it collided with a 2021 CF MOTO ATV driven by 82-year-old Billie J. Moss of Tishomingo, Mississippi, traveling east from a private drive onto Highway 365. This also happened on Labor Day around 2 p.m.
Billie J. Moss and his passenger, 61-year-old Billie J. Moss Jr. of Tishomingo, received fatal injuries from the crash. Billie J. Moss Jr. was pronounced dead on the scene. Billie J. Moss was flown to NMMC in Tupelo, where he was pronounced dead.
And in Issaquena County on Labor Day, 20-year-old Michael Robinson of Greenville, Mississippi, died after a multi-vehicle crash.
The fifteen deaths from car crashes recorded by MHP is a 275 percent increase from last year’s total of four fatalities.
All crashes remain under investigation by MHP.
