In the 1990s and early noughties, HBO ‘s Sex and the City dominated the world of fashion at the time, as well as the romantic comedy scene in the film industry.
The excitement of single women in their thirties navigating their way around relationships, careers and friendship in New York City is enough to draw anyone in.
And now the series has been exposed to a whole range of people after it was put on Netflix , with younger Gen Z and millennial viewers experiencing the show for the very first time – and the bizarre outfits in all their glory.
But revisiting the show today proves that some of the outfits worn by Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda did not ooze style but were rather shockingly impractical and outlandish.

In the newest spin-off called And Just Like That , Carrie was opting for granny chic when she donned a head scarf, sunglasses, rubber gloves and a blue cardigan, but instead got wacky domestic goddess instead.
Samantha has had some hectic looks over the series and the films, including when she wore a metallic gold fur-trimmed coat with matching flashy boots.
But instead of looking expensive and sophisticated, the PR guru ended up looking like C-3PO from Star Wars .
Samantha also attempted to pair a monochrome Chanel scarf with a blue blouse and a pair of hoop earrings, but the combination ended up awkward and uncomfortable.
But according to revered stylist Patricia Field, who was in charge of the wardrobe department, Miranda had the worst style.
She raised eyebrows in a pair of unflattering baggy blue dungarees with a puffer coat and baseball cap that left her looking shapeless.
In the spin-off, Miranda, who is played by Cynthia Nixon , sported a frantic striped dress with a large red belt that sat at her waist. Some people looking at that image would assume it’s the early 2000s, but the series was filmed in 2021.
