‘School for Good and Evil’ Author Soman Chainani Reveals New Book ‘Young World’; Bidding War Underway for TV and Film Rights (EXCLUSIVE)

The School for Good and Evil” author Soman Chainani has set his latest book, political fantasy novel “Young World.” The title, which is told through prose and two-color art, is described as “House of Cards” meets “Hunger Games.” 

“Young World” follows the story of 17 year-old who, against all odds, gets elected President of the United States. Soon, one election becomes a global movement, ushering in the party of Revolting Youth. But when the new teenage leaders meet for the first time at a G-8 summit, things turn deadly — forcing a young American President to not just clear his name, but also save the world from possible ruin. 

Multiple Hollywood producers are in advanced conversations for the TV and film rights to “Young World,” which is being packaged by CAA.

The book marks the first release from Chainani since the film adaptation of his hit six-book fantasy series “The School for Good and Evil” premiered on Netflix on Oct. 18, 2022. Executive produced by Chainani, directed by Paul Feig and starring Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh and Ben Kingsley, the movie debuted at No 1. in 84 countries and has reached more than 225 million hours viewed since launch.

While Chainani’s “The School for Good and Evil” franchise, which has sold more than 4 million copies, and his most recent book “Beasts & Beauty,” a reimagining of 12 classic fairy tales, were published by HarperCollins, “Young World” was picked up by Penguin Random House in a pre-empted a sale before it went to market.
