Annual block party helps bring in new entertainment district
JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – You can now take a drink on your weekend strolls through Downtown Jonesboro.
Friday, Sept. 6 marked the beginning of the entertainment district, and there was a big event to help community members take advantage of it.
Community members gathered for live music and local vendors at the Paint the Town Red Block Party.
“It’s kind of like a happy accident that this happened together,” said Executive Director for the Downtown Jonesboro Alliance Sarah Doss.
Doss spent the afternoon hanging signs and setting up tents for the block party.
She said bringing the entertainment district to Jonesboro has been in the works for quite some time now.
“We started working on this ordinance over two years ago so there was no way to know when it would come to fruition,” said Doss.
The Jonesboro City Council approved the ordinance in June.
Doss said finally seeing these plans come to life was a special moment.
“It’s just surreal to see those cups and wristbands actually in real life after they’ve been in mockups and ideas for so long,” said Doss.
The city also installed new signs on the sidewalk, letting you know when you’re entering or leaving the district.
The entertainment district is located within an area bordered by Church Street, Cate Avenue, Huntington Avenue, and Washington Avenue. It will be in operation every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
