Orlando gets first look at changes coming to Camping World Stadium

ORLANDO, Fla. – Taxpayers in Orlando are getting a new look at the $400 million renovation coming to Camping World Stadium.

Back in January, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners authorized the use of the Tourist Development Tax revenues (TDT) for multiple projects, including that $400 million for Camping World Stadium improvements.

The stadium was built in Orlando in 1947 and has been renovated several times. One of the largest, and most recent, was 10 years ago, when the stadium showed off a $210 million renovation. At the time, the stadium had gotten a brand new lower bowl, a new, large monitor and two new concourses that connect the stadium. About 90% of the stadium was revamped in the nine-month project. Everything but the upper bowl was torn down during construction and new facades on the east and west sides house eight elevators, eight escalators and stairs.

At Monday’s city council meeting, commissioners are working to finalize plans to establish the financial terms for the TDT. They want to enter into a Joint Project Agreement with Florida Citrus Sports Events, Inc. to work cooperatively to make decisions related to the improvements and to set forth the roles and responsibilities of each for the implementation of the improvements. They’re essentially hoping the new improvements will make Camping World Stadium more competitive to attract more — and better — events.

Orlando has thrown its hat in the ring to host the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2027 because of renovations to EverBank Stadium; the renovations city officials are hoping to do could put them in a better spot to host the NFL team.

The stadium scope documents say changes could come to the plans, but they’re hoping to be able to do the following:

  • Replacement of Existing Upper Bowl Seating Pre-cast (East & West Upper Bowls)

  • Replacement of Terrace Level Concourse & Amenities (example below)

  • East & West Suite Level Redevelopment (partial demo & rebuild)

  • Surrounding Lot Improvements/ Amenities which include better lighting, Wi-Fi and parking

  • Enhanced Premium Entries which include air-conditioned entry at Gates B & E

  • Stadium Exterior

  • Stadium Modernization and Other Improvements which include better HVAC, security, fire alarm systems, video displays, new seating, ticketing system, etc.

  • Multipurpose Event Center which includes better fan amenities like concessions and restrooms, locker rooms, meeting rooms, concert areas, space for banquets, etc.

Monday’s meeting begins at 2 p.m. If approved, construction could begin as soon as 2025 to be completed in time for the 2027 college football season.
