Viking Sports Weekly {September 9} – Cleveland State University

Volleyball
-Cleveland State will hit the road once again for a pre-season tournament this week, traveling to Blacksburg, Va. for the Hokie Invitational on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14. The Vikings will face UNC Greensboro, Virginia Tech and Norfolk State throughout the two-day tournament.
-Last time out, the Vikings went 2-1 at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Cleveland CSU Invitational, picking up wins against Akron and UTRGV.
-Liberty Torres recorded a pair of 20-kill matches on the week, while Emma Walker tallied back-to-back 20+ dig performances to move into eighth place in the CSU Record Book with 1,233 career digs.

Men’s Soccer

-Cleveland State will begin Horizon League play this week, traveling to Oakland on Saturday, September 14.

-The Vikings enter the contest with a 2-1-2 record on the year.

-Earlier this season, the Vikings were selected to finish second in the #HLMSOC Preseason Poll, right behind preseason favorite, Oakland.

Women’s Soccer

-The Vikings will hit the road to begin a three-game roadswing this week, closing out non-league play at Akron on Thursday, September 12.

-Thursday’s game will be the fifth road contest for the Vikings throughout the first seven games of the season.

Men’s Golf

-Cleveland State will begin its fall slate with a busy week, competing in the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invite on Monday, September 9 and Tuesday, September 10 and the Golden Grizzly Invitational on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15.

-The Vikings return seven players from last year’s team, including All-League honoree Brody Simms, and will welcome just one freshman for the upcoming season.

-These two events will be the first of five tournaments for Cleveland State this fall, including its annual home tournament – the Tom Tontimonia Invitational (September 30-October 1).

Viking Of The Week

Liberty Torres, Volleyball

Averaged 4.08 kills per set on the week, including back-to-back 20-kill performances against Akron and UTRGV. Posted hitting percentages of .360 or better twice, and currently ranks third among league players averaging 3.95 kills per set on the year.
