A18 Pro Chip In iPhone 16 Pro Is 15 Percent Faster Than The A17 Pro Chip And Consumes 20 Percent Less Power

The iPhone 16 and 16 Pro are the company’s flagship devices that feature desktop-class performance thanks to the new A18 and A18 Pro chips. The new SoC is a significant step up from the previous A17 Pro chip, delivering better computational and graphical performance alongside a much more capable Neural Engine for advanced machine learning. This brings us to ask actually how fast Apple’s new A18 Pro chip is compared to last year’s A17 Pro chip in terms of performance and efficiency.

Apple says that its A18 Pro chip is 15 percent faster than last year’s A17 Pro while being 20 percent more power-efficient

When the company announced the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, it compared the A18 chip with the two-year-old A16 Bionic chip, potentially hinting that the performance gains of the standard A18 chip are not as impressive as the ‘Pro’ variant. However, the A18 Pro poses a different story with its faster Neural Engine and an advanced GPU that makes way for enhanced graphical performance.

As for the computational performance, the A18 Pro chip has a 6-core CPU, and based on Apple’s claims, it is now 15 percent faster than last year’s A17 Pro chip on the iPhone 15. This means that if the numbers are true, it will offer significant improvements in terms of performance, and if you are wondering about power efficiency, the chip delivers better performance while consuming 20 percent less power. This means that the iPhone 16 Pro models will deliver much better battery life than the previous models.

The CPU on the A18 Pro features 2 performance cores and 6 efficient cores, which will balance the power consumption while delivering the best performance. Compared to the A18 chip, the A18 Pro also has larger caches and next-generation ML accelerators, which will play a major role in the company’s forthcoming Apple Intelligence features. The new chip also enables faster USB 3 speeds, which is a bigger deal than expected.

Apple’s new iPhone 16 Pro models come with a slew of premium features, and the A18 Pro chip will do the heavy lifting under the hood to make it all work seamlessly. We have to take note that the performance and efficiency claims are from Apple directly, and we do not know what tool it is using to derive these results. Henceforth, we will wait a while before sharing the benchmarks of the new A18 Pro chip and how it compares to the A17 Pro as well as the competition.
