American Airlines Adding More Flights as Cayman Islands Travel Demand Surges – Caribbean Journal
As part of a continued push to the Caribbean for the upcoming winter, American Airlines is adding another daily nonstop route, Caribbean Journal has learned.
American Airlines is transitioning to daily nonstop service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands in December.
“That’s big news for the winter season,” Cayman Islands Director of Tourism Mrs. Rosa Harris told Caribbean Journal. “And we’re excited about that.”
The new flight comes as tourism continues to show resilience in the Cayman Islands, with 2023 showing 93 percent of the destination’s highest year on record.
Looking ahead, the Cayman Islands is projecting either a near or complete recovery from the previous record-breaking year of 2019, Harris said.
The expansion from one of the country’s busiest airport helps buoy the destination’s growth as Grand Cayman in particular is adding a strong new hotel pipeline.
That includes the recently-opened Vita Cayman Islands wellness focused resort, along with the imminent debut of Dart’s new 280-key Hotel Indigo, the first-ever Hotel indigo opening in the Caribbean, part of the InterContinental Hotels portfolio.
That property is set in the Seven Mile Beach area very closed to the celebrated Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa.
Further down the road, a major new Grand Hyatt resort project is also in development, with plans for 350 rooms, along with a new hotel planned for the heart of downtown Georgetown.
