Man accused of taking more than K from woman’s bank account for gambling

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – A man has been charged with financial exploitation after being accused of using an elderly woman’s debit card to spend thousands of dollars at local “Hotspot” gambling establishments as well as on other purchases.

In January of this year, police were called by a man who claimed that 46-year-old Chad Everett Bolyard had been financially exploiting an elderly woman.

The caller claimed that Chad had taken the woman’s debit card and was using it to make charges that she did not know about.

Police also spoke to a bank employee who said that Chad and the woman had come into the bank when they were informed her account had been overdrawn due to gambling charges.

The woman said she didn’t know anything about that.

Further, police were told that she attempted to move money from another account into her checking account, but the bank declined the transfer due to Chad telling her to “Shut up” when she said “I don’t even know why I am here”.

This caused Chad to become extremely irritated with the bank employees and he began demanding that they move the money.

They even said that Chad could be heard in the background of phone calls telling her what to say and influencing her on how to do transactions.

Police obtained a search warrant and looked over the woman’s finances where they discovered more fraudulent charges on her account at local ‘Hotspots’, despite her telling them that she did not give Chad permission to use her card for gambling at any establishment.

They found $6,708 in cash withdrawals, $548.50 in Gambling establishment charges, $243.58 in charges from Amazon, $234.61 in charges from Elevate Jewels, and $2,300 in cash back from bank deposits on the woman’s account that she did not consent to nor was aware of.

She told police she was not aware that Chad had been using her bank account for anything other than groceries and occasional gas for her vehicle.

Police estimate Chad’s exploitation added up to $10,031.19 in losses for the woman.
