Cumberland County company acquires 20 more Planet Fitness franchises

A Lower Allen Township-based company now owns 172 Planet Fitness clubs in 13 states following its latest deal.

National Fitness Partners — a portfolio company of Atlanta-based private investment firm Argonne Capital Group — has acquired more than 20 clubs in Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee from the Baker Group.

National Fitness Partners already had a presence in Ohio but it has now expanded into Indiana and Tennessee.

“This acquisition is a major milestone for National Fitness Partners, bringing us closer to our goal of making fitness accessible to everyone,” Stephen Kindler Jr., president and CEO of National Fitness Partners, said in a news release.

The transaction was announced on Monday. Terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed.

This transaction is the twelfth acquisition for National Fitness Partners since it was founded in 2016 in partnership with Argonne to acquire 10 Planet Fitness locations in Pennsylvania from the Kindler family. The Kindlers have been involved in the fitness industry since 1967 and have operated Planet Fitness franchises since 2005.

In the last year, National Fitness Partners has grown from 121 gyms to 172 facilities, and has expanded into five more states.

National Fitness Partners now has clubs in 13 states. The company has more than 2,000 employees and serves more than 1.2 million members at its facilities.

Planet Fitness had approximately 19.7 million members and 2,617 stores in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Panama, Mexico and Australia, as of June 30.
