New archway to be built in Bay Springs’ historic shopping district

BAY SPRINGS, Miss. (WDAM) – The 40-foot archway is being built to help bring more people to the city’s Brick Street Shopping District.

City leaders will be bringing in children from local schools to help create artwork that’ll go along the sides and across the top of the arch.

Bay Springs Mayor Donald Brown said the archway is apart of the city’s plan to shine more light on some of the city’s older businesses.

“We’ve got several businesses that have been here for a long time,” said Brown. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to promote this area better. We’ve got Alexander’s that’s been here going on 100 years next month.”

“We’re proud of this area, and we want to revitalize it and get everything back to how it used to be.”

Brown said the archway is expected to be up by mid-summer, and that there are also plans for some decorative lighting around that same area.
