The Sports Bra gets funding for expansion

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – The Sports Bra announced plans for expansion on Monday, thanks to an an investment from the 776 Foundation.

The first-of-its-kind Portland bar, which only plays women’s sports, opened in April 2022.

“When I first opened The Sports Bra two years ago this month, I had no idea the impact it would have on so many so quickly,” said Jenny Nguyen, the bar’s CEO and founder. “Now I can see we’re just getting started. With the support of Alexis and 776, we plan to bring The Bra to cities across the country and beyond, and continue to invest in our mission.”

After the Portland Thorns started their 2024 season in last place, the 3-time league champions will enter match day on Saturday with a new interim head coach.

Alexis Ohanian is the founder of the 776 foundation, as well as a co-founder of Reddit. The foundation offers grants for 17-25 year-olds looking to make a difference regarding climate change. Ohanian married tennis superstar Serena Williams in 2017.

“At Seven Seven Six, we’re enthusiastic about the incredible advancement in women’s sports,” said Ohanian. “Our foundation is proud to back The Sports Bra, which is a welcoming place for everyone to celebrate these athletes’ feats. 100% of the returns from this investment will be donated to advance future generations of women athletes.”

““This is an exhilarating time for women’s sports, and The Sports Bra has proven the strong need for more places to celebrate them,” said Nguyen. I envision a future full of Sports Bras everywhere doing what we do best: supporting women.”
