Premiering this fall, veteran CNN and Washington Post political reporter Chris Cillizza will host a fascinating program that will delve into the intersection of sports and our nation’s most influential political figures. Each episode will be hosted by Cillizza and features engaging conversations with current or former politicians, military leaders, civil servants, and other key players in Washington. Through these discussions, Cillizza uncovers the sports that shaped their lives and careers in a captivating way.
“Hosting a show that combines two of my deepest passions – sports and politics – is truly a dream come true,” said Chris Cillizza. “While D.C. is a political town at its core, it is also a great sports town and many of the power players in our nation’s capital are who they are because of their involvement in sports. The show will reveal the profound impact those athletic experiences have had and how they continue to influence the lives and careers of some of the most important people in Washington. I can’t wait to share these stories using Monumental Sports Network’s incredible platform.”
In addition, Monumental Sports Network announced today a dynamic new show in partnership with Sports Business Journal (SBJ) that will cover the rapidly evolving business of sports. Slated to premiere this fall, the show will explore all the most cutting-edge developments and trends across the sports industry, and will feature SBJ reporters and executives sharing their expertise and footage from SBJ’s full calendar of events.
“Sports Business Journal is thrilled to partner with Monumental Sports Network to launch this innovative new show that will dive deep into the dynamic world of sports business,” said Abe Madkour, SBJ‘s Executive Editor and Publisher. “This collaboration allows us to add an impactful fan-centric video element to our content and will offer viewers exclusive insights about the evolving landscape of the industry.”
Several fan favorites also return to the network’s original programming lineup for the 2024-25 season:
- Live Capitals and Wizards game coverage will include revamped alternate broadcasts with fun and relaxed insights from engaging and knowledgeable hosts, analysts, celebrities, and special guests. More details will be released soon.
- Hometown with Rachel Nichols is back after a remarkable debut season. D.C. sports fans get the chance to join award-winning journalist and sportscaster Rachel Nichols as she explores the sports scene in her home of Washington, D.C. for an interview format series that features sports stars and celebrities.
- Weekly magazine style shows Caps Red Line and Beyond the Buzzer will continue to provide fans with a glimpse into all the best behind-the-scenes moments of the Capitals and Wizards seasons. John Walton and Tarik El-Bashir will also bring back Caps Rink Report, reporting on the latest storylines during the Capitals 50th anniversary season.
- MNMT is debuting a revamped lineup of football content, as Washington Commanders video podcast Beltway Football recently announced a brand-new live postgame format (free to all fans), and sports betting show By the Book will move to a football-focused theme.
- The Sports Junkies – a D.C. sports radio institution – will continue to air every weekday morning on MNMT, discussing the hottest topics in local sports and pop culture. New this season, the live TV broadcast of the program is available for free to all fans via the Monumental+ app and monumentalplus.com.
“Our programming is core to everything we do at Monumental Sports Network, and I am ecstatic about the quality of our live event and original programming heading into the upcoming season,” added Leonsis. “Our content is second-to-none in the regional media world, and I believe it will resonate strongly with viewers throughout the D.C. area.
