ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Two men were arrested on charges of vehicle theft and larceny after allegedly stealing out of a man’s gym bag and then stealing his car at an Escambia County Planet Fitness, according to an arrest report.

The report states that on July 24, 36-year-old Daniel Mahallan of New York checked into Planet Fitness on Nine Mile Road. He then proceeded to steal the man’s car keys which were inside the gym bag that he left in an unlocked Planet Fitness locker.

The report states he then left the gym and drove off in the man’s car, which contained several other items such as:

  • Three Mac books
  • 20 cell phones
  • Clothes and shoes
  • Wallet with credit cards

According to the report, the man claimed that his belongings amounted to about $29,530 and he was living out of his car due to a recent divorce. He also stated that the cellphones and laptops were a part of his cell phone business.

The report states that a deputy interviewed a Planet Fitness employee about the incident who stated that Mallahan walked into Planet Fitness with another man, identified as 33-year-old Jeremy Packer, and checked in using his ex-wife’s membership.

According to the report, a short time later, the victim received a Navy Federal text alert notifying him that his card had been used at a CVS Pharmacy on 1 East Nine Mile Road for a charge of about $420 and another for the Raceway Convenience Store.

On July 25, the victim’s stolen car was found and recovered at the CVS Pharmacy on Nine Mile and Palafox, according to the report.

The report states that the keys were still missing. When a locksmith was able to open the car, the victim stated he had additional items missing from the car totaling $9,150.

Surveillance footage at CVS showed two men pulling into the parking lot, going into the store, then coming out and loading the victim’s belongings from his car into a large white van and driving off, according to the report.

The report states that the two male suspects as well as a female suspect — identified as 40-year-old Taryn Everitt — were later arrested in Baldwin County after going to more Planet Fitness locations, stealing from lockers, and using credit cards at nearby stores. They were caught in a stolen U-Haul van.

The report states several of the first victim’s belongings were found in the U-Haul van, including his keys. Everitt allegedly pawned off an iPhone 13 Pro Max that belonged to the victim.
