Black Friday — the annual one-day shopping phenomenon that ushers in holiday gift-buying season and usually marked by deep discounts and exasperated brick-and-mortar shoppers — is fast approaching.

Do you know when Black Friday is, and are you ready? The date is closer than you may realize.

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday is always the Thursday after Thanksgiving, so this year, Black Friday will fall on November 29.

That gives you about nine weeks to get your shopping list in order.

Where to find the best Black Friday deals

The big-box stores such as Best Buy, Lowe’s, Sam’s Club, Target and Walmart will unveil Black Friday deals in the coming weeks.

Manage your holiday shopping budget

Even if you saved up all year to go on a holiday gift-buying bonanza, you’ll want to create and stick to a holiday gift budget.

As tempting as it might be to shower your loved ones with expensive gifts this holiday season, you should resist doing it — at least with credit cards, experts say. 

Surveys point to surging credit card debt that could harm people for years, these experts warn, with the total swelling to a record $1.08 trillion this year, according to the New York Federal Reserve. 

Forty percent of Americans are already starting the holidays with more credit card debt than a year ago, a survey by investment bank D.A. Davidson showed. And 48% will end the holidays in more debt, according to a different survey by Debt Hammer, a site devoted to helping people manage debt.
