No. 11/15 Tigers Travel to Birmingham to Open Conference Play – University of Memphis Athletics

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The No. 11/15 Memphis women’s soccer team will commence its conference slate with a road match against the University of Alabama – Birmingham on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Tigers (5-1) are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season, a 1-0 duel with Tennessee on Sept. 12. Their contest with UT Martin scheduled for Sept. 15 was canceled due to excessive rain.

A member of the AAC since its inception in 2013, Memphis was the first team in the conference to finish an entire conference season undefeated in 2023, finishing 9-0 and going on to win the conference tournament for the third consecutive season.

UAB (4-2-1) is led by Lisa Mann who is in her second year leading the Blazers after four seasons with West Virginia State University. UAB and Memphis shared one non-conference opponent, with both programs defeating Ole Miss. The Tigers grabbed a 2-1 victory in Oxford, and UAB hosted the Rebels in a 1-0 result at PNC Field.

Memphis owns a 17-9-1 record against the Blazers, including 10 wins in a row and two victories last season. Since 2005, the Tigers are 15-1-1 against UAB.

In the regular season, Anna Hauer scored less than five minutes into what became a 4-0 rout of the Blazers. In the tournament quarterfinals, UAB struck first, but two second-half goals from Anne-Valerie Seto and Saorla Miller sent the Tigers into the final four.
