The Hockomock Area YMCA held its annual Spier Family Kindness for Kids 5K and Family Fun Day at the Y’s Invensys Foxboro Branch on Saturday, providing opportunities for fun for all ages.
The annual community event encouraged adults and kids to be active with a 5K, Kids Fun Run and free family-friendly activities provided by the YMCA and community partners.
All proceeds from the day’s event benefit the Hockomock Y’s Food Access Program.
“We’re so excited to have everyone here today to run a race on this beautiful day,” said Jim Downs, CEO of the Hockomock Area YMCA. “But it’s even more important than that because we’re here for our Food Access Program and to help eliminate hunger in our communities.”
Greg Spier, presenting sponsor of the Spier Family 5K and Family Day, along with his wife Kathy said, “Since March 2020 and the start of the pandemic, the Y has provided over 750,000 pounds of food to people in need through weekly grocery bag distribution and food pantry programs. This represents over 102,000 bags of food. There’s food insecurity in our communities and this program truly helps people.”
This collaborative effort continues to help the Y’s neighbors of all ages and demographics to ensure access to healthy food and nutrition.
