Vancouver Opera’s Former General Director Inducted into BC Entertainment Hall of Fame – OperaWire

Vancouver Opera has announced that James Wright, its former General Director, has been inducted into the prestigious BC Entertainment Hall of Fame.

Wright was inducted for his outstanding contributions to the city’s vibrant arts community. The recognition is also a testament to Wright’s  leadership and lasting impact on Vancouver’s cultural landscape during his tenure with the company from 1999 to 2016.

Wright helped elevate the company’s profile both locally and internationally, making it one of the most celebrated arts organizations in Canada. During his tenure, the Vacouver Opera saw six company premieres, including 2010’s Canadian premiere of “Nixon in China” and the Canadian premiere of Tan Dun’s “Tea: A Mirror of Soul.”

In a statement, Wright said, “I am truly honored to be recognized by the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame alongside esteemed individuals who have made an indelible mark on the arts in this province. My time at Vancouver Opera was a remarkable journey, and I am proud of the role we played in enriching the cultural fabric of Vancouver. This honour is a reflection of the opera community’s collaborative spirit, and I share it with everyone who supported me during my time there.”

Wright joins several notable figures from Vancouver Opera who have previously been inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame, including the company’s first conductor Irving Guttman, and tenor Richard Margison.
