Aberdeen prepares for a summer full of musical entertainment

ABERDEEN, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The weather is getting nicer and outdoor music venues in Aberdeen are getting geared up for a musical summer.

There are several musical entertainment activities during the summer in Aberdeen, including three concerts in a downtown Summer Concert Series. Alexa Sheldon of the Aberdeen Downtown Association relays what’s happening at Malchow Plaza with who’s first up.

“We are so excited to partner with Co-op Architecture to bring Erin Nichols Band here to downtown Aberdeen on June 20th. The other days are July 25th and August 22nd,” said Sheldon.

Bands are still being sought for those other two dates. The concerts are free to the public.

There’s also free music offered in tents throughout the Brown County Fair from August 12th through the 18th. Fair Manager Rachel Kippley outlines the Brown County Fair’s approach to family music entertainment. The musical acts for the grandstands have also been announced.

“Aberdeen is just kind of a hub for bringing entertainment in the summer for this whole region. We pride ourselves in bringing family-friendly entertainment, both free and on the grounds as well as at the grandstand. There’s something for everybody,” said Kippley.

Of the 7 nights at the grandstand, the four music acts perform Wednesday through Saturday.

“We’ve got Sawyer Brown coming with opener Ned LeDoux. Thursday’s going to become a lady’s night. We got headliner Gabby Barrett and she’s going to be opened with Tigirlily Gold, a sister duo from North Dakota. Friday night is kind of our non-country night with Sugar Ray, then Smash Mouth, and Lit. So, kind of some 90s, early 2000s rock. Saturday it’s Russell Dickerson with opener Matt Stell,” said Kippley.

There is a wind-swept and lonely grandstand today at the Brown County Fairgrounds waiting patiently for the large, music-loving crowds that will be there during the fair’s run starting on August 12, 2024
