Iconic World War II plane had flights at Oracle Aviation

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Not many can say they have flown in a World War II-era fighter plane. But a handful of local folks crossed that off their bucket list this week.

The P-51 Mustang “Gunfighter” is one of the world’s most famous P-51 planes.

For a fee, riders could hop aboard for a flight over Sioux City.

This aircraft has offered flights and thrilled crowds at air shows for over 40 years.

One of the pilots said there aren’t many of these planes left that can be flown.

“Mustang is probably one of the most noted fighters in World War 2 that most everyone recognizes. While there are a few of these flying there are not many that have the ability to do what we’re doing and provide rides for the general public to experience what flying in the airplane is like,” said Pilot P-51 Gunfighter Jordon Brown.

For those who did fly in the plane, they say they were amazed and grateful for the experience.

“We just feel fortunate that they were able to slot this in their busy schedule, One pilot came from Phoenix Arizona the other one came from the middle of Indiana and they come from all over the United States to fly this plane and it was just a chance of a lifetime for me,” said P-51 Gunfighter Passenger Timm Funk.
