iPhone 16 Pro Teardown Reveals A18 Pro Logic Board Is Smaller, More Densely Packed & Features A Bigger Metal Cover, Likely For Better Heat Transfer

Apple was previously reported to have introduced a bevy of internal changes that helped address some complaints that iPhone 15 owners were experiencing. Thankfully, the company delivered by radically improving the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max as a new teardown reveals that the 6.3-inch model has a redesigned logic board and a protection cover for the battery.

The iPhone 16 Pro disassembly was performed by REWA Technology, and we got a look at what Apple has changed when it comes to the internal hardware. We wanted to pay close attention to the two logic boards and batteries, as the iPhone 15 Pro has been compared directly. Firstly, as you can tell in the image above, the A18 Pro and A17 Pro logic boards are drastically different, with the iPhone 16 Pro component being smaller and more densely packed. The new part also features a larger metal cover, most likely to keep the A18 Pro’s thermals under check.

Apple’s engineers may have reduced the logic board’s size to accommodate a bigger battery. Speaking of the battery, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro cells have also been compared by placing both parts next to each other. Not only is the new battery’s capacity upgraded, but it also sports a protective cover to aid in efficient heat transfer. During the teardown, we noticed that, like its previous models, Apple has included a pair of ‘pull tabs’ that simplify removing the battery. It is possible that the EU has pressured the Cupertino giant to make these necessary changes to make repairs or replacements simpler.

Unfortunately, these improvements were insufficient to drive pre-order numbers as the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max were previously estimated to have registered 12.7 percent fewer pre-orders of the initial 17 million units compared to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, it should be noted that this teardown video was published after those pre-orders kicked off, so potential buyers may have a change of heart about looking at the video above.
