Sports Digest: 49ers tight end Kittle ruled out against Rams

All-Pro tight end George Kittle will miss San Francisco’s game on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams because of a hamstring injury.

Kittle reported feeling sore following practice on Wednesday and missed the final two practices of the week.

San Francisco is also without All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, who went on injured reserve last week because of Achilles tendinitis, and star receiver Deebo Samuel, who strained his calf last week.

• Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Malcolm Koonce, who injured a knee shortly before the season opener, will miss the rest of the season, two people close to the situation told The Associated Press on Saturday.

One of the people said Koonce will undergo surgery soon to repair a torn ACL.

• The Houston Texans will be without running back Joe Mixon on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings because of an ankle injury.

• The Pittsburgh Steelers placed rookie right tackle Troy Fautanu on injured reserve because of a knee injury.

GOLF

LPGA: Jeeno Thitikul had a rocky closing stretch but did enough to expand her lead over Hall of Famer Lydia Ko, finishing with a birdie for a 4-under 68 and a two-shot advantage in the Kroger Queen City Championship in Maineville, Ohio.

Thitikul had a 54-hole total of 16-under 200.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Eleven years after winning the BMW PGA Championship as a 20-year-old prodigy, Matteo Manassero moved into position to capture the prestigious event again, shooting 9-under 63 to take a three-stroke lead after the third round in Virginia Water, England.

Rory McIlroy, the 2014 champion, shot 66 and was tied for second with 2021 champion Billy Horschel, whose round of 65 included a run of seven straight birdies.

AUTO RACING

FORMULA ONE: Lando Norris edged ahead of his title rival, Max Verstappen, to win pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Norris, of McLaren, was .203 seconds ahead of Verstappen of Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes was .316 off Norris’ time.

BOXING

DUBOIS KEEPS TITLE: Daniel Dubois retained the IBF heavyweight title by knocking out former two-time world champion Anthony Joshua in the fifth round in a dominant first defense of his belt.

Joshua had already been floored in the first and third rounds of a surprisingly one-sided fight at London’s Wembley Stadium before falling face first after a straight right hand by Dubois.

MLS: Patrick Agyemang had a goal and two assists in the second half to help Charlotte FC pull away for a 4-0 victory over the New England Revolution in Charlotte, North Carolina.

New England (8-17-4) was already trailing 2-0 when Dylan Borrero received a red card in the 70th minute, forcing the Revolution to play a man down from there.

ENGLAND: Luis Díaz scored two fine goals inside two minutes as Liverpool beat visiting Bournemouth, 3-0, to move to the top of the Premier League.

• Ollie Watkins got the tying goal in the 73rd minute, then Ezri Konsa fired in a cross by Youri Tielemans in the 88th as Aston Villa moved into third place with a 3-1 comeback win over winless Wolverhampton.

• Newcastle missed a chance to move to the top of the table, losing 3-1 at Fulham.

• Manchester United remained midtable, squandering a host of chances in a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

• Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson marked his 50th club appearance with two early goals to inspire his team to a 3-0 win at West Ham.
