Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – September 22
Anthony Santander – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
The talk of the town as we close the season might be Shohei Ohtani, but let’s not sleep on the year Anthony Santander is having. He has homers in two of his last three games to bring his season total up to 43. He’s just an RBI short of 100 and seems to be seeing the ball well lately. He also sees the ball well out of Sunday starter Casey Mize’s hand. The two have faced off twice in their respective careers with Santander hitting a home run in both run-ins.
Yordan Alvarez – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Alvarez was in a little mini slump going into Saturday’s action, but promptly broke right out of that with a big double in his first time up – clearing this projection right off the bat. He’s also another hitter with good history against the pitcher he sees on Sunday. Having faced Griffin Canning 14 times in his career, he’s a career 5-for-11 (.455). Two of those five hits left the park, giving him a 1.000 head-to-head slugging percentage.
Mookie Betts – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
To round out our list of hitters with good head-to-head matchups on Sunday, I also like Mookie Betts. He’s not white hot, which puts this projection in a reasonable spot. As for the matchup, he gets Antonio Senzatela who he is 7-for-16 (.438) against. Three of those hits have been for extra bases with two of them having left the park. That yields a .875 slugging percentage, leaving me with plenty of confidence.
