Horton’s Furniture going out of business after nearly 80 years

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Horton’s Furniture is going out of business after 78 years in Wichita and surrounding communities. Owners Steve Elpers and Dilman Morris are retiring, and the independent retailer begins its final liquidation sale April 25.

Horton’s on at 10915 W. Kellogg Drive opens its going-out-of-business sale to the public on April 25 and features a 55,000-square-foot showroom filled with a variety of furniture.

Famous name brands include Barcalounger, Best, Bassett, Craftmaster, Fjords, Howard Miller, Hooker, Homestretch, King Hickory, La-Z-Boy, Pulaski, Serta, Simmons, and Vaughan-Bassett. In addition, a huge selection of heirloom quality rugs and floor clocks will be for sale. Early shopping is encouraged for best selection.

Horton’s Furniture was founded by Frank and Frances Horton in their hometown of Argonia. After 22 years in Argonia, Horton’s Furniture moved to Wichita where it continued to expand, becoming one of Wichita’s largest furniture showrooms. Elpers and Morris bought the company from the Hortons in 1997.
