Sports brief: River Valley’s Carson Smith tabbed for Friday’s North-South game
COLUMBUS — River Valley’s Carson Smith will compete in this weekend’s Ohio North-South All-Star Boys Basketball Game organized by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association.
Smith will compete on the South squad along with Parker Penrod, Troy Christian; Cade Norris, Hilliard Bradley; Samuel Johnson, Worthington Christian; Peyton Heiss, Jonathan Alder; Jesse Burris, Delaware Hayes; Alex Bobb, Maysville; Caleb Lovely, South Point; Tariq Cottrill, Federal Hocking; Bransyn Copas, North Adams; Mason Shrout, Preble Shawnee; and Alex Ervin, Williamsburg. They will be coached by Anthony Calo of Olentangy Orange and Nathan Copas of North Adams.

The North team will feature Shelby’s Alex Bruskotter as well as the OPSWA reigning Mr. Basketball Colin White of Ottawa-Glandorf. Other members of the team are Duncan Moy, Badger; Dom Cruz, Canfield; Luke Skaljac, Brecksville; Jesse McCulloch, Lutheran East; Jonas Nichols, Hoban; Hayden Nigro, Louisville; J’Allen Barrino, Malvern; Max Dawson, Willard; Cade Brenner, Archbold; and Will Cordonnier, Findlay. They will be coached by Chris Hassinger of Medina and former Cardington and Marion Harding head coach Roger Jury of Hopewell-Loudon.
The game will be played Friday night at Olentangy Liberty following the girls game that tips at 6:30 p.m.
Playing for the North in the girls will be Sophia Gregory, West Branch; Chelsea Johnson, Warrensville Heights; Grace Kingery, North Ridgeville; Elise Champagne, Columbia; Megan Campbell, Jackson; Corri Vermilya, Loudonville; Ashley Mullet, Hiland; Hillari Baker, Carrollton; Destiny Robinson, Fremont Ross; Lauren Gerken, Liberty-Benson; Brooklyn Vaughn, Toledo Central Catholic; and Cali Gregory, Crestview. They will be coached by Klarke Ransome of Marysville and Steve Suter of Hopewell-Loudon.
Playing for the South girls team will be Olivia Skillings, Mechanicsburg; Danielle Cameron, Olmsted Falls; Emily Bratton, Bloom Carroll; Berry Wallace, Pickerington Central; Jamisyn Stinson, Sheridan; Kelsey Harlan, River; Airah Lavy, Nelsonville-York; Bree Allen, Fairland; Payton Johnson, Peebles; Kassie Ingram, Kings; Riley Smith, Kettering Alter; and Jayda Mosley, Purcell Marian. The will be coached by Jordan Eaton of Olmsted Falls and Corey Small, South Gallia.
