California firefighters travel to Cincinnati to cheer Bengals on in yearly tradition

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A group of California firefighters are joining the Who Dey faithful for Monday Night Football.

What started in 2000, has now become a tradition for the firefighters from Huntington Beach, California.

Each year, they choose a new city to visit and watch NFL, MLB, and college football games.

This year’s trip brought them to Cincinnati for Monday Night Football.

“Every time we go on a trip, whatever city we go to for that year, for that team we’re cheering for them, so that’s why I’m all Bengal’d out and ready to go,” firefighter Steve Teasdale said.

The firefighters say in every city they try to meet up with local firefighters.

“Met a couple Cincinnati firemen,” said Teasdale. “They invited us to their personal tailgate tonight, so we’re meeting them there.”

While the firefighters enjoy seeing what the different cities have to offer, they say the trip is meaningful for other reasons.

“My dad was also a firefighter in Huntington Beach, my grandad as well was a firefighter, and we have four fathers and sons on this trip so the tradition can move forward,” Huntington Beach firefighter Travis Terich explained.

The firefighters say they were in Washington when the Bengals beat the Commanders 12 years ago.

Monday’s game will be the second time they see the two franchises play one another.

“Tonight’s the night, Huntington Beach firefighters are going to bring the pain tonight at Paycor, and we want to see all the Who Dey out there,” Terich said.
