Dan Reed‘s January 6 Doc ‘Stopping The Steal’ Sells Around The World
Emmy-winner Dan Reed’s documentary about the Jan 6 insurrection has sold to a wealth of networks around the world. Channel 4–Max‘s Stopping the Steal has been picked up by SBS Australia, NRK Norway, RTL Deutschland, TVNZ New Zealand, SVT Sweden, DR Denmark, Warner Bros. Discovery for HBO Max & DMAX in Iberia, TVN24 in Poland, Discovery Benelux & Nove + D+ Italy, Canal+ for French speaking Europe and Africa and Channel HOT8 and yesDocu for Israel. The doc tells the story of how Donald Trump, the former and possibly future POTUS, encouraged a band of people to subvert the U.S. constitution and storm the Capitol. The story is told from the inside by a line-up consisting entirely of Trump supporters and allies from the Vice President’s office down. Distributor Sphere Abacus struck the sales and MD Jonathan Ford said the “alarmingly topical film reveals how Trump’s conspiracy to subvert the constitution took shape, why it led to the violence of January 6th and how it was ultimately defeated.” In related news, ex-Rainmaker Content and Passion Distribution exec Becci Payne has reunited with several former Kew Media colleagues by joining Sphere Abacus as Sales Director.
Isabella Rossellini Scoops European Film Awards Achievement Gong
Emmy-winner Isabella Rossellini is to be awarded with a European Achievement in World Cinema Award in Berlin later this year. The Italian-American star of White Knights, Blue Velvet and Crime of the Century will be given the gong at the 37th European Film Awards for her “outstanding body of work.” Rossellini made her cinematic debut as an actress in 1979 in the Taviani brothers’ Die Weise and has appeared in numerous other pics since including Blue Velvet, White Knights, Rodger Dodger and Joy. She also won an Emmy for HBO’s Crime of the Century. The awards take place December 7 in Switzerland. Last year’s gong went to Isabel Coixet.
Hit Belgian Reality Format ‘The Landlady’ Comes To Market
Reality show The Landlady has been a primetime hit in Belgium and is now launching internationally. The format sees a celebrity landlady take in seven students. They live under her roof for a year as she helps guide them through the trials and tribulations of life. Be-Entertainment has snagged the international rights after a strong launch for the show on VTM in Belgium. It has garnered a 39.9% share in the 18-to-44s, a 64% uptick on the channel’s usual numbers. Be-Entertainment will pitch the show as an inside look at the issues relevant to Gen Z life. “A reality show with students always felt like an interesting arena, but seems more relevant now than it ever was with so many students struggling,” said Be-Entertainment MD Gepke Nederlof. “Introducing a celebrity landlady proves to be the perfect way to tell their story with all their challenges, but also the fun they’re having together.” Belgium’s Borgerhoff & Lamberigts created and produces the original show.
