Music/entertainment venue now part of vision for huge proposed project in Southeast Austin

Good afternoon, and thank you for subscribing to Building Austin, our weekly newsletter focused on real estate, growth and development in the Austin region. I’m Shonda Novak, the American-Statesman’s real estate reporter.

This rendering shows a previous version of developers' vision for the proposed River Park project along East Riverside Drive. Once completed, the project is slated to have 10 million square feet of new development to be built in phases over the next 10 to 20 years. A revised version includes a new indoor music and entertainment venue, which would be built at the northwest corner of Riverside and Crossing Place, in the lower right corner of this image. Though an updated rendering is not available showing the planned venue, River Park's developers say this image reflects the overall vision for the project.

The proposed River Park development has had its share of twists and turns as plans have shifted over time for the mega mixed-use project slated for 109 acres along East Riverside Drive in Southeast Austin.

The latest plan calls for a music and entertainment venue to be part of the mix — a “state of the art facility’ that developers Presidium and Partners Group say would be a place for “all to enjoy.” The developers say they have an agreement with a third-party operator, but aren’t saying who that is just yet.

The venue would kick off the first phase of the master-planned River Park development.

Developers plan to build a 65,000-square-foot music and entertainment venue as part of the first phase of River Park, a proposed development planned along East Riverside Drive. Michael Piano, Presidium’s vice president of development, said there is “pent-up market demand in Austin for a mid-size, indoor venue, which meets the needs of rising stars and bridges an existing market gap between smaller, local venues and larger arenas.”

As currently envisioned, the overall River Park development is planned for 10 million square feet of development to be built in phases over the next 10 to 20 years. The site is bordered by Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metro Park, East Riverside Drive, Pleasant Valley Road and Country Club Creek. Plans include more than 30 acres of publicly accessible open space, parkland and urban trails leading into Roy G. Guerrero Park.
