I travel with children a lot and this pram-slash-bicycle hybrid is set to last me four years

If there’s one thing to get right when travelling with kids, it’s the equipment. Firstly, the amount of stuff you need simply to get from A to B is alarming, and then there’s the (surprisingly forgettable) consideration that they will grow. Quickly. Despite the fact your family holidays might feel frequent, a lot can change in the space of six months. What you need to pack when travelling with a newborn differs hugely from when they’re almost one. Out with the steriliser tablets and in with the endless snacks and toys to entertain toddlers on long-haul flights.

But one thing that’s grown with my children since they were six months old, and will continue to for the next four years (which honestly feels like ages away), is our smarTrike Traveller. We’ve used it as a lightweight city and countryside stroller, setting up the handlebars at the front so they feel like they’re leading the way. The seat reclines so they can nap in the same way they would any other travel pram, and the straps are secure.

When they’re older, we’ll attach the pedals and fold down the pram handle so they can use it as a trike in the park. The cleverest feature, I think, is that you can slot the handle back up when they’re tired and change it to a stroller in an instant. Two pieces of equipment in one is my kind of investment.

So far, I’ve found it folds down easily and effectively, so storing it at home and in the car is quick and economical, space-wise. I’m yet to take it on board a plane, but I’ll be wheeling it through the airport later this year as it feels sturdy enough to withstand the hold. As a travel pram, I’m thrilled with it – as are the twins – and while I don’t want to wish the time away, I look forward to seeing them step things up and start pedalling.
