6 Ways The Amex Platinum Has Improved My Travel Experiences

Using the Amex Platinum travel portal, I can book five-star hotels from Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) or The Hotel Collection (THC). These hotels can be expensive, but often there are deals like a third or fourth night free. The Amex Platinum comes with an annual $200 hotel credit for prepaid bookings when you stay at least one night at an FHR property or two nights at a THC property.

Here’s an example of how this can be a huge benefit. In 2023, I stayed four nights at the Park Hyatt Melbourne in Australia. Since it’s an FHR property that I booked through Amex Travel using my Amex Platinum, I received the $200 hotel statement. At the time there was a fourth-night free promotion, so combining that promotion with the $200 Amex Platinum credit brought my out-of-pocket cost to less than $100 per night—a great deal for a very nice hotel.

In 2022, I used my hotel credit to stay one night at the W Bogota in Colombia, which is also an FHR property. The total cost for the night was $199, making my stay completely free after the Amex Platinum $200 statement credit and freeing up my funds for other expenses.
