This Low-cost Airline Is Giving Away a Free Trip to Iceland — and Has $99 Flights to Europe
Low-cost Icelandic airline Play is making it easier to travel this fall and winter with $99 flights to popular cities across Europe.
The sale, which is available to book through 12 a.m. ET on Oct. 3, is available for travel from October through March 2025, Play shared with Travel + Leisure. The $99 one-way sale flights are valid on trips to Iceland, Copenhagen, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Dublin, Berlin, and Liverpool.
In addition, Play is giving away a free trip to Iceland for one lucky winner and their guest just in time to see the Northern Lights this winter. To win, travelers can enter online by 12 a.m. ET on Oct. 3. to score a pair of flights to the land of fire and ice.
“Traveling fosters connection to other cultures and people from different countries, but transportation costs can be a barrier for Americans who want to visit Iceland or new European destinations,” Play’s CEO Einar Örn Ólafsson said in a statement shared with T+L, adding, “PLAY’s low-cost flights enable travelers to embark on more trips or experience more at their destination year-round.”
The sale flights are available from any of Play’s gateway airports in the United States: Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), New York Stewart International Airport (SWF), or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
Play is a low-cost carrier, which first started operating flights in Europe in 2021 before launching service from the U.S. the next year. The airline operates a “hub-and-spoke model” in which all flights connect through Reykjavik before heading on to other destinations across Europe, and flies an Airbus fleet, including the A321neo and A320neo aircraft.
The airline charges per flight leg for everything from checked bags to food and drinks. The sale fares include all taxes, fees, and carrier charges, but do not apply to extras like baggage.
