Wilmington Riverfest: What to know about food, parking and entertainment
The Wilmington Riverfest, considered Wilmington’s biggest fall festival, was first held in 1979. The festival was created by a group of Wilmingtonians interested in showcasing downtown Wilmington and the Cape Fear River.
The two-day cultural street festival will return to downtown Wilmington the first weekend in October.
Here’s what to know about this free family-oriented event.
What’s happening?
The festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6 in downtown Wilmington, along Front Street between Chestnut and Orange streets. The festival will feature craft vendors, concessions booths, a children’s play area and entertainment. New to the festival instead of fireworks this year will be an Open Sky Drone Show. Due to the city of Wilmington ordinances, pets are not allowed onsite during Riverfest.
Entertainment/events
Open Sky Drone Show: The show will be held at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 5. The best place for viewing will be the Wilmington Riverwalk. Please, no boats allowed in that area during the flight of the drone. This will stop the drone.

Street fair: The street fair will feature local arts and crafts artisans showcasing their paintings, woodcarving, jewelry, sculptures and more. There also will be food vendors serving turkey legs, waffle cones, popcorn and more.
