The Week in Fashion: Schiaparelli Brings Its Surrealism to the Streets of Paris

Welcome to the Week in Fashion, Bazaar’s at-a-glance guide to what the industry is talking about.

Schiaparelli Brings Its Latest Surrealist Campaign to the Streets of Paris

Johnny Dufort

Now that we’re in the midst of fashion week, that can only mean one thing—the pieces that were presented last season are finally hitting the market.

With the arrival of its Fall/Winter 2024 ready-to-wear collection, Schiaparelli has unveiled a special new photo series that was shot by photographer Johnny Dufort. As it turns out, these images were taken immediately following last spring’s show, when Dufort followed the models across Paris and captured them in the pieces.

A statement was released, which offered context behind the unique shoot. It read: “It was around 8pm when they came out onto the Place Vendôme, after they walked the Schiaparelli show. Even though it had been sunny all day, the night was beginning to feel a little chilly, but they didn’t care. They wanted to keep laughing and playing, and strut some more. They posed for Johnny: one in front of the mythic Vendome column, dressed in a glittering gown, a nod to surrealism, that sparkled in the headlights of the passing cars. The mythical Place, expertly designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, offered a sensational backdrop at this late hour. This moment of freedom ends at the windows of 21 Place Vendome, the historic home of Schiaparelli, when a mysterious shadow emerges, breathless from running up the stairs, clutching her Anatomy bag like a surrealist banner against the Shocking pink flowers. The tête-à-tête between the glamorous dresses and the flash of the English photographer only lasted a few minutes, just enough time to exalt the highlights of this ready-to-wear collection. A flash in the night.”

Gisele Bündchen Models New Stefano Pilati x Zara Collection

Recently, we’ve seen a trend of luxury fashion designers teaming up with retailers to drop ready-to-wear collections, and the latest is Stefano Pilati, whose highly-anticipated collaboration with Zara (and the first release under his own name) will drop online and in stores on October 3.

We got our first peek at the clothes earlier this week, in a campaign (seen here) that featured Pilati himself, who posed alongside none other than supermodel Gisele Bündchen. The two were photographed by Steven Meisel in a few posh pieces from the forthcoming menswear and womenswear collections, including playfully oversized outerwear, skirt suits printed with fruit patterns, rich leather accessories, and so much more.

Meanwhile, Pilati celebrated the upcoming launch by co-hosting a cocktail party in Paris with Marta Ortega Pérez, where the attendees included Bündchen, as well as superstars like Kate Moss, Iris Law, Pat McGrath, Luca Guadagnino, and more.

Simon Porte Jacquemus Curates an Exhibit for Christie’s

On Friday, October 4 at 11 a.m. EST, a new exhibition will open at Christie’s Rockefeller Center that comprises 70 works from sculptor François-Xavier Lalanne. Curated and designed by Simon Porte Jacquemus, these pieces all derive from the personal collection of Lalanne’s daughter, Dorothée, and an auction will take place later in the week, on October 10.

Lalanne, along with his wife, Claude, were both highly-influential in the field of sculpture throughout the 20th century, thanks to their realistic works that contradicted the dominant abstract art of the time. Under the name Les Lalanne, the pair became especially well-known for their depictions of animals, and their work has been displayed all across the world.

You can browse the entire collection that will be on display at Christie’s here. The auction will begin at 11:00 a.m. EST on October 10.

Jony Ive Makes His First Venture Into Outerwear With LoveFrom, Moncler

On Tuesday, September 24, the official LoveFrom, Moncler collaboration was released, which marks LoveFrom founder Jony Ive’s first-ever venture into outerwear.

Ive, who was previously the Chief Design Officer for Apple, launched LoveFrom in 2019 alongside Marc Newson, which they deem a “creative collective of designers, architects, musicians, filmmakers, writers, engineers and artists.”

With this latest alliance, Ive is touching on that designer aspect, teaming up with Moncler’s Remo Ruffini to create vibrant, pastel colored pieces that were made partly with Moncler’s new, high-quality recycled nylon.

“Who I work with has become more important to me than what I work on,” Ive said in a statement. “Our collaboration has been wonderfully simple and joyful. We have learnt so much from each other and I am particularly happy this modest collection marks the beginning of a longer term collaboration.” Available October 10, you can shop the new collection here.
