1K stolen candles cost Plaza business K before shoplifter’s arrest

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – One woman now faces possible prison time after 1,000 stolen candles cost a business on the Country Club Plaza nearly $26,000.

Documents filed in the Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court have revealed that Destiny M. Moore, 25, of Kansas City, has been charged with stealing around $25,000 in candles.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department said it was called to the Bath & Body Works on the Country Club Plaza, at 4705 Broadway Blvd., with reports that known shoplifters had entered the store.

As Moore left the store with nearly $700 in candles that had not been paid for, responding officers said they arrested her.

Employees of the store reported that Moore had allegedly been stealing from the store since March. Around 1,000 candles worth nearly $26,000 had been stolen in that time.

Investigators said a review of surveillance footage from each instance revealed Moore to be behind all of them based on her tattoos. Moore admitted she was the one in the footage.

As of Friday, Sept. 27, Moore remains behind bars on a $20,000 bond. A bond review hearing has been set for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 with a preliminary hearing set for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

No further information has been released.
