Blowing Rock restricting leisure travel due to Hurricane Helene impacts

BLOWING ROCK, N.C. (WBTV) – Leisure travel to Blowing Rock has been restricted due to impacts from Hurricane Helene.

Blowing Rock Town Manager Shane Fox told WBTV Saturday afternoon the town’s water plant is operating off a generator.

Fox added the town has limited access to fuel and resources.

Watauga County is currently in a state of emergency as a result of Hurricane Helene’s impacts to the area. Widespread flooding, damage to infrastructure, and limited resources have created unsafe conditions across the region.

In a Facebook post, the town said emergency personnel and area officials are working to respond to resident needs, restore services and utilities, and repair vital infrastructure.

A curfew is in place across Watauga County from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
