In our weekly list of business people on the move, we highlight Palm Beach County professionals who are making a difference. Greenberg Taurig lawyer to serve on court advisory committee

Greenberg Traurig, P.A. litigation shareholder Robert “Bobby” Kane III has been appointed to serve as co-chair of the Palm Beach County Bar Association civil practice committee. The civil practice committee is a court advisory and practice area committee whose charge is to initiate and consider suggestions to improve the practice, to help with community outreach, and to coordinate the circuit civil portion of the agenda for the Bench Bar Conference. Kane was appointed to serve a one-year term beginning in the summer and ending June 30, 2025. Greenberg Traurig, LLP has more than 2,750 attorneys in 47 locations in the United States, Europe and the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.

Florida firm bolsters West Palm Beach office with new hire

Lewis, Longman & Walker, P.A., has announced that Nicholas R. Bixler has joined the firm’s West Palm Beach office. Bixler has served as both in-house, corporate counsel and outside litigation counsel for various companies in Florida and most recently as a regulatory compliance attorney. Lewis, Longman & Walker, P.A. is a statewide law firm with 35 attorneys and over 30 years of experience practicing in the areas of environmental, land use, real estate, litigation, legislative and governmental affairs.

Literacy advocacy group founder wins award, $40,000

Roots and Wings, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on improving literacy rates of children in Palm Beach County, recently announced that founder Ted Hoskinson has been honored by the Carl Angus DeSantis Foundation with a Catalyst Award. As part of the recognition, he was presented with a check to Roots and Wings for $40,000. Hoskinson, who spent over 15 years post-college as an elementary school teacher in Washington D.C., cares deeply about public elementary school education. After the death of his wife Anne in 2016, Hoskinson founded Roots and Wings, the name she had chosen, with a mission to promote literacy and excellence in public education. The Carl Angus DeSantis Foundation, which launched in late 2021, created the Catalyst Award to honor the spirit of its founder Carl A. DeSantis, who was a catalyst for positive change and generosity throughout his life.

The Ben general manager latest WPB DDA board member

The West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority has announced the appointment of Bernardo Neto as a member of the authority’s board of directors. The appointment was made by West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James. As general manager, Neto led the successful grand opening of The Ben, a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel. He has more than 20 years of hospitality leadership experience in top travel destinations including Las Vegas, Hawaii and Lisbon, Portugal.

Boynton Beach country club names director of people and culture

Emily Roeckle, PHR, was recently named the new director of people and culture for Hunters Run Country Club. In her role, she will spearhead the human resources team and lead initiatives to enhance workplace culture and employee engagement. Roeckle brings over a decade of comprehensive human resources experience to Hunters Run. A luxury country club community with 1,649 residences in 23 communities, Hunters Run is located on 990 acres in east Boynton Beach, bordering Delray Beach.

Firm’s WPB office managing partner named in Florida Trend

Shutts & Bowen LLP West Palm Beach managing partner Matthew R. Chait was recently named to the Florida Trend 2024 Legal Elite Notable Managing Partners list. The list honors 109 individuals who focus on mentoring attorneys and showing their leadership skills within their communities and respective firms. Chait is a member of the his firm’s business litigation practice group and his statewide practice focuses on commercial real estate and land use litigation, commercial foreclosure and loan guaranty matters, and general business litigation, including partnership and LLC disputes, healthcare, fraud, deceptive trade practices, and complex judgment domestication issues.

Urban League CEO wins John W. Mack Medal of Honor

Patrick Franklin, the distinguished president and CEO of the Urban League of Palm Beach County, was honored with the prestigious John W. Mack Medal of Honor at the 2024 Whitney M. Young, Jr. Awards Gala, held recently during the National Urban League Conference in New Orleans. The John W. Mack Medal of Honor is one of the National Urban League’s highest accolades, awarded to an Affiliate that demonstrates extraordinary and unwavering commitment to addressing social and economic injustice. The Urban League of Palm Beach County is a nonprofit organization that empowers communities and changes lives.

Palm Beach Symphony CEO joins PBAU business school advisory board

Palm Beach Symphony CEO David McClymont has been named to the Marshall E. Rinker Sr. School of Business Advisory Board at Palm Beach Atlantic University, a private, Christian university in West Palm Beach. Since becoming CEO of the Symphony in 2014, McClymont has overseen strong, innovative fundraising efforts and increased ticket sales, recruitment of high-profile guest artists, more diverse offerings, and an emphasis on music education. Founded in 1974, Palm Beach Symphony is South Florida’s premier orchestra known for its diverse repertoire and commitment to community.
