Week 6 Opening Lines: DraftKings ODDS-ervations

Week #6 opening lines have been posted, so in this space we take a look at what the oddsmakers are laying down around the SEC and a few other games of interest.

With that, as always, if you’re going to dabble, please do so responsibly. Don’t forget, any line that seems too good to be true likely is, and the sharps in Vegas know what they’re doing.

Here’s a look at the SEC opening lines and a few other thoughts, with all lines courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook, who is an SBNation partner. All odds are subject to adjust during the week, and all kick times listed are central. TV provider listed in parentheses. The Nuggets of Wisdom (NoW) are free of charge, so you’re getting what you paid for there!

What are some of your favorite plays this week? Leave them in the comments section below and we’ll compare notes.

Saturday, Oct. 5th

  • 11 am (ABC) – Mizzou at Texas A&M (-2.0 / 49.0 total)

NoW – If you account for a home field advantage of around 3 points, the oddsmakers are essentially saying on a neutral field, Mizzou would be around a 1-point favorite. Truly seems like a toss-up here. The 11 am kick time is to MU’s advantage, will they be able to capitalize?…

  • 2:30 pm (ABC) – Auburn at Georgia (-23.5 / 51.0 total)

NoW – Who’s more pissed off from their loss last week? I’m guessing Jawja…

  • 2:30 pm (ESPN) – Ole Miss at South Carolina (+9.0 / 51.5 total)

NoW – This is a prime example of how gambling often makes zero sense. Ole Miss is favored on the road against a team (South Carolina) that destroyed the team (Kentucky) that just embarrassed them at home. And Carolina did that destroying of said Kentucky team in Lexington, and now Ole Miss is favored by more than a TD at Carolina. Sure seems like easy money to back the Gamecocks here, but that probably means Ole Miss will bounce back with a huge win…

  • 3:15 pm (SECN) – Alabama at Vanderbilt (+24.5 / 55.0 total)

NoW – We’ll see what kind of motivator Kalen DeBoer is this week. That’s a lot of points to give an improved Vandy team, especially after such a sky-high moment for ‘Bama coming off their huge win over UGA…

  • 6:30 pm (ABC) – Tennessee at Arkansas (+14.0 / 60.5 total)

NoW – That’s a tough line to evaluate. I certainly feel Tennessee is two TDs better than Arky, but just when you assume the Razorbacks are going to pack it in, they rise up for a random stellar performance. Is this the week for that nonsense?…

  • 6:45 pm (SECN) – UCF at Florida (-1.0 / 59.5 total)

NoW – You know Gus Malzahn will do everything he can to ruin this one for the Gators. If Florida loses, one has to wonder if Billy Napier will be on the sideline the following week?…

Non-SEC games of interest

Friday, Oct. 4th

  • 8:00 pm (FS1) – Syracuse at UNLV (-4.0 / 57.5 total)

NoW – How about our guy Barry Odom? After all he dealt with last week he goes out and pounds by all accounts a decent Fresno State team by scoring 59 points. Something tells me UNLV wasn’t exactly crushed when their now ex-QB decided to fly the coop…

Saturday, Oct. 5th

  • 3 pm (FS1) – Rutgers at Nebraska (-7.0 / 42.5 total)

NoW – Big litmus test for Nebraska and their freshman QB Raiola. Rutgers is stout enough to come into Lincoln and cause trouble…

  • 6:30 pm (NBC) – Michigan at Washington (-2.0 / 40.5 total)

NoW – This is a line that sticks out like a sore thumb. Washington has been less than impressive so far this season. Even though Michigan hasn’t been dominant, it’s still surprising to see them open as 2-point dogs here…

  • 9:30 pm (ESPN) – Miami, Fla. at California (+13.0 / 55.5 total)

NoW – ‘Canes are coming off one of the luckiest wins in recent CFB history, now they go way West where their internal clocks will feel like the kick time is 12:30 a.m. I don’t see Miami losing, but this might be a good spot to play Cal for the cover…
