This Portland neighborhood is one of the 5 best in the world
Kerns, located on Portland’s east side, is one of the top five neighborhoods in the world.
Or at least it is according to Time Out magazine, which released a list of the world’s coolest neighborhoods and ranked Kerns at No. 5.
The magazine said it “quizzed our global network of on-the-ground experts to find the coolest (neighborhoods) on the planet.”
Time Out chose Kerns because it “feels like a perfectly-formed small town” inside a major city.
The article praised the neighborhood’s shopping, restaurants and bars, particularly along Northeast 28th Avenue.
Neighborhood favorite Stammtisch gets a shout out for its “cozy German” vibes. It’s “perfect,” Time Out declares, “for a late-afternoon beer.” The article also praised the area’s walkable shopping district featuring stores like old Portland record store staple Music Millennium and the historic Laurelhurst Theater.
The list of 38 neighborhoods from around the world featured eight spots in the United States, including neighborhoods in New York, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts and Oregon.
The overall best neighborhood in the world is Notre-Dame-du-Mont in Marseille, France.
Mers Sultan in Morocco, Pererenan in Indonesia and Seongsu-dong in South Korea rounded out the top five.
