10 In-Demand Entry Level Remote Jobs In 2024

Remote-hybrid working preferences. Career progression. Social and environmental causes. And a 2% decline in hiring.

Welcome to the class of 2024.

Approximately 40% of Gen Zers say that remote work options are important to them, according to a recent generational survey undertaken by FlexJobs, while 80% of Gen Z respondents stated that they are more productive working remotely than in the office.

But is it possible to land a remote job, or one with remote-hybrid options, when you’re just launching your career? Or is this a benefit exclusively for mid-career professionals who have more years of experience, such as Millennials?

It turns out that there are more remote career opportunities available for Gen Zers launching their careers than one might initially suppose. FlexJobs dug into their database and released a list of 10 in-demand roles for Gen Z graduates. Their findings came as a result of analyzing graduate-friendly, entry-level remote job postings, from January to mid-April 2024.

Here are some of the in-demand jobs and careers that were revealed:

1. Customer Service Rep

To work in customer care or support, you need to have empathy, emotional intelligence, and be a clear communicator. You also need to be able to read between the lines, and have a knack for understanding people and anticipating needs. This role is needed in every industry, so it is likely that you will have a myriad of opportunities to explore across various sectors.

You can also make money online in this role by freelancing your services as a virtual assistant.

2. Business Development Rep

Business development is another job that is integral to the success of most industries, as this role enables them to grow, tap into new markets, and expand their offerings and partnerships.

If you thrive in networking and function well in a fast-paced, target-driven environment, and are self-motivated, this could be a suitable role for you. Many employers provide on-the-job training, and with experience you could climb the ladder and make more money—including commission earnings.

3. Accountant

The accountancy and financial industry shows no signs of slowing its growth, maintaining a steady rate year on year, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. With a relevant finance degree, you could work remotely in accounting, or you might decide to undertake accountancy certifications.

This is another service that you could provide as a side hustle, or turn into a full-time freelancing endeavor.

4. Recruiter

Recruitment is another role that demands the consistent achievement of high targets, and the ability to communicate well, and handle issues and information sensitively with all your stakeholders. These stakeholders include the hiring manager, management and leadership teams, human resources departments, and of course, candidates. This is well suited for you if you enjoy working in a buzzing, people-centric environment.

5. Administrative Assistant

If you are extremely organized and have excellent time management skills, you may enjoy this role.

Administrative assistants have always been the backbone of successful operations. Although much of their work can be automated with AI (artificial intelligence), there are still companies that, for one reason or another, prefer to have a human as their admin assistant, and this works perfectly for you when launching your career—either as a freelancer or working for an employer.

Here are five other roles that are in high demand, according to FlexJobs analysis:

  1. Spanish Bilingual Interpreter
  2. Territory Account Executive
  3. Sales Representative
  4. Software Engineer
  5. Data Analyst

If you’re a recent graduate or about to graduate this year, explore the 10 roles listed above, identify which entry-level job is best suited to your personality and career goals, and be patient with the process. And while you’re waiting for employers, why not gain experience now so you can land higher-paying remote roles in the future?
