Arcade, theater, bowling: A new family entertainment center has opened in East Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK – A family entertainment center with a bowling alley, cinema and more under one roof has opened in the township.

Palmeras Entertainment recently opened at 1031 Route 18 South in the Coral May Plaza. The facility, which is located behind Arooga’s, is open from 2 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.

“There’s something for all ages,” Director of Operations Steve Tarantini said. “There’s a large bowling pin in front of the building, so people think it’s just bowling. It’s so much more than bowling.”

The three-floor, 50,000-square-foot facility features 19 bowling lanes, which includes eight hyperbowling lanes; arcades; billiards; foosball; snookball; shuffleboard and bocci. There are two golf simulators, which also offer a variety of other sports, a 7D cinema ride and food, Tarantini said.

The second floor is available for private events, Tarantini said. The space can handle 100 or more people and includes a stage, fireplace and bar for caterers.

The third floor has two rooms that are available for corporate and social functions and a bar for caterers.

“We’re hoping to bring more community activities, such as a bowling or hyperbowling leagues, to the facility in the future,” Tarantini said.

The family-run business is owned by Steve’s father, Daniel Tarantini.

The Tarantini family lived in South River and Sayreville before settling in East Brunswick in the late 1980s. Steve is a 2010 graduate of East Brunswick High School.

“The idea grew over time,” Steve Tarantini said. “… The building was originally designed to be more of an office, mixed use building, but at the time, office spaces weren’t doing so well. They also wanted to do something a bit more exciting and be more involved with the community. My father loves the area. It became more of a project of love. It was a dream come true.”
