Irony plays a large role in Demna’s Balenciaga offerings. The designer has created everything from platform Crocs to high-fashion Erewhon merch, and to understand his clothes, one must have a sense of humor (even if the jokes are questionable). This theme continued at the label’s spring 2025 show in Paris today. Sitting front row, Katy Perry stepped out in a Balenciaga look that was certainly not your average LBD: Her pocketed and zippered dress was the dress equivalent of a fanny pack—or, akin to several dopp kits sewn together to make an outfit.

A fanny pack dress? Yes, you know the bag I’m talking about: The kind your dad would wear around the waist while touring around a city on vacation. Perry’s dress had all the zippers and pockets for your traveling needs, only they were fashioned into a fitted black dress and paired with leather Pantaboots and futuristic shield shades. The unlikely look is exactly the kind that Demna has been mastering at Balenciaga—similar to his dust bag and towel skirts. And this is Paris Fashion Week, after all—a time to experiment. Not everyone is keen on leaving the house in a fanny pack-inspired look, but Katy Perry is clearly all in.
