Romeo Beckham Joins the Balenciaga Masking Trend With Surprise Runway Debut

Romeo Beckham hit the runway for Balenciaga during Paris Fashion Week on Monday. The 22-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham modeled selections from the French luxury fashion house’s spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection.

Romeo wore a cropped polo shirt and low-rise cargo pants on the runway. The young model’s face-shielding sunglasses nearly made him unrecognizable, until social media posts from the show on his dad David’s Instagram Story revealed his identity.

Romeo also shared his enthusiasm for his participation in the show, taking to his own personal Instagram account and sharing a photo from the runway. Prior to his runway appearance during Paris Fashion Week, Romeo appeared in the spring 2013 campaign for Burberry, alongside Cara Delevingne and Edie Campbell, photographed by Mario Testino, as well as Saint Laurent’s fall 2021 campaign when he was 18 years old.

Demna, the creative director for Balenciaga since 2015, took inspiration from the lingerie trend seen on European runways this season for his spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection. “I really wanted something more, not boudoir because boudoir sounds very old, but something very sensual and almost erotic,” he said following the show, per Miles Socha’s reporting for WWD.

“I’ve never really shown it, but it’s always been part of who I am as a designer.”

Socha described the spring 2025 ready-to-wear show as having “a frisky feel, laced with sly humor and Demna’s formidable handle on subverting clothing archetypes. Who else would think of plopping a pair of starched blue jeans on the back of the neck, the pant legs falling like a scarf over the chest and the seat framing the face like a vampire collar?”

Among the highlights from the spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection, Demna’s designs included backless silk dresses, lightweight and structured cocoon jackets, “superlowwaist” boot-cut jeans and more.
