Bishop Melanie Rogers Miller of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church was all smiles after being presented the gavel by Delphine Metcalf-Foster (respectively pictured 4th & 5th from right). Miller is a retired US Navy Lt. Commander Chaplain and only the second female bishop in their 200+ year history. Metcalf-Foster is a retired US Army First Sergeant, was the first female national commander of the 1-million-member Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in 2017-18, and is the commander of DAV Ozie Boler Chapter 21 in Vallejo.
On Sept. 27, nearly 100 friends attended the Vallejo Together (VT) ‘Maria Guevara Gala’ at the Moose Lodge #468 in Vallejo. Guevara founded VT as a volunteer-led and volunteer-driven effort in 2010. Several speakers spoke of Maria’s selfless and passionate service for Vallejo’s unhoused and marginalized residents. From left are VT Board President Jackie Jones, Vice-Pres. On Sept. 28, Loma Vista Farm held a Pasta Feed & Auction with nearly 200 guests at the Florence Douglas Center. This major fundraiser will help fund a new cow habitat but much more is needed toward the goal of raising $2.5 million to fully fund their entire Master Plan. The Filipino American National Historical Society, Vallejo Chapter have been busily preparing for the annual Filipino American History Month Food Feast to be held on Oct. 5, 6:30 – 9 p.m., at the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum, 734 Marin St. Please call (707) 655-9900 to reserve and pay $75 per person at the door.
