As the fashion world turns its gaze to the Spring/Summer 2025 runways in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, my eyes are on well-dressed guests showcasing the fall 2024 fashion trends. Street style during this time of year is a masterclass on the season’s most coveted looks, and I’m taking notes. From suede everything to dark denims, my Instagram saves has become a fall trend bucket list that I cannot wait to start ticking off.

This year, the best way I can describe the fall 2024 fashion trends is a return to the basics. When I envision the season’s style, I see 50 shades of brown, well-tailored blazers, chunky knee-high boots, and gorgeous suede bags. The trends taking over my social media and shopping pages happen to reflect exactly that: true, classic fall fashion. Plus, they are all conveniently cohesive, pairing well together while also making a statement on their own.

Shades of Suede

This fall, suede is taking over in the form of bags, boots, blazers, and belts. From buttery soft handbags to sleek warm jackets, this tactile trend is elevating everyday looks with its rich texture and luxurious look. While browns and blacks are the most classic shades of suede, consider making a statement with a deep burgundy or olive green tone. The possibilities are endless, so feel free to make this trend your own.

While suede tends to come at a higher price point, if you’re not looking to invest in such a seasonal fabric, there are plenty of faux-suede options on the market that can achieve the look for less. However, if you are ready to splurge on suede, remember that it’s delicate in nature, so your purchase should also include a good protector spray to keep your pieces pristine through the years.

Everything But the Barn

Allow me to introduce you to the outerwear that’s in everyone’s carts this fall: the barn jacket. Originally made viral by Dôen, this light layer captures the classic countryside, Ralph Lauren aesthetic that is so intrinsically fall. These structured, yet comfortable and casual jackets are popping up on almost every site at every price point, so while capturing this trend might require a purchase, you can decide whether to splurge or save. Bonus points if your husband or dad has a vintage version lying around.

The key to nailing this trend is in the juxtaposition—pair your barn jacket with pieces that create an interesting mix of textures and styles, as seen on Hannah Porter. The neutral colorways of this jacket will go with just about everything, so don’t be afraid to get creative in your closet. I personally can’t wait to style a barn jacket with a pair of white boxer shorts and loafers for a transitional look.

Paint the Town Brown

From rich chocolates to soft tans and everything in between, brown is undeniably the color of the season. Versatile and sophisticated, this is a trend you can comfortably invest in, as the color isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. If you’d typically choose a black coat, sweater, bag, or pair of boots, try opting for brown this year to bring more warmth to your look.

For a monochromatic look that’s anything but monotonous, play with different shades and textures of browns within the same outfit, as Hannah Chody has done so effortlessly. I’m loving the idea of styling a brown silk maxi skirt with a chunky chocolate sweater for an easy fall night out. Accessories are also a great way to dip your toe into this trend. A pair of brown boots or a structured tan handbag can instantly upgrade your existing wardrobe.

Denim on Denim on Denim

The idea of a Canadian tuxedo is by no means new to fall 2024 fashion trends, but it’s getting a high-fashion upgrade this fall. The secret to mastering this trend? Mixing and matching varying shades, washes, and textures to add depth and interest to your outfit. While classically a more casual look, an all-denim fit can be easily elevated by pairing it with more polished pieces like pointed-toe heels, a structured leather bag, or chunky statement jewelry.

Need an outfit styling formula? Start with your favorite pair of jeans, add on a contrasting denim jacket or button-down, and break up the two shades with a simple belt. Throw on a pair of slingbacks and vintage earrings, wear them with confidence and ease, and you’re good to go! Out of all of the fall 2024 fashion trends, this one is effortless and fool-proof.

Boots & Buckles

Moto boots are revving up fall fashion, bringing an edge to everything from flowy dresses to tailored suits. These sturdy, often buckle-adorned boots are no longer reserved for motorcycle enthusiasts—they’re a versatile staple for any fall wardrobe.

For a contrast that works, pair your chunky moto boots with something unexpected like a delicate slip dress or a flowing maxi skirt. Don’t be afraid to play with different heights and styles—ankle-length moto boots work well for day-to-day wear, while knee-high versions make a bold statement for nights out.

Timeless Tailoring

This fall, fashion is embracing the enduring appeal of impeccable tailoring, proving that a well-fitted garment never goes out of style. The focus is on clean lines, precise cuts, and flattering silhouettes that create a classic, polished look. Invest in a perfectly tailored blazer—it’s the cornerstone of this trend and can elevate any outfit. Look for blazers with subtle details like slightly padded shoulders or nipped-in waists to add a contemporary touch to the timeless shape. Pair your blazer with tailored trousers for a sharp suited look, or throw it over a silk slip dress for an elegant evening ensemble.

Remember, the key to nailing this trend is in the details—even a simple white shirt can make a statement when it fits you perfectly. Accessorize your tailored looks with minimalist jewelry and sleek, structured bags to maintain that crisp, put-together aesthetic.
