The fast-growing fitness race has announced that the Windy City will host the next World Championships, signaling the competition’s growing popularity in the United States
Hyrox has selected Chicago as the host city for its highly anticipated 2024/25 World Championships. The event will take place from June 12th to 15th, 2025, at the Chicago Navy Pier Centre.
Hyrox has experienced high growth in its popularity, with over 550,000 athletes expected to compete globally in 2024 alone. The workout combines eight 1-kilometer runs alternated with functional workouts and is attracting over 80,000 participants in the United States.
“The decision to bring the World Championships back to the U.S. reflects the growing demand for the sport across the country,” said Mo Furste, Hyrox Co-Founder. “Chicago is not only a key operational hub for Hyrox in the U.S., but it also offers a world-class venue to match the scale of this event.”
The 2024/25 World Championships will occur across four days and will host both the Elite 15 World Championships and Age Group World Championships. The Elite 15 World Championships highlights the top 1% of global competitors and will feature both Individual and Doubles competitions. Current champions Megan Jacoby (USA) and Alexander Roncevic (Austria) are set to defend their titles.
New racing formats will also be on display. The Elite 15 Doubles World Championships will make its debut, with relay teams competing. After a series of qualifying events, athletes will also compete in the Age Group World Championships, adding new depth to the competition.
Hyrox has become one of the fastest-growing fitness races. Nicknamed the “marathon of fitness,” the competition was designed to create a new style of fitness racing for an untapped market. Instead of catering to extreme levels of fitness, like CrossFit, Hyrox wants to cater to wider audiences who want to test and benchmark their physical progress.
In an interview with Athletech News earlier this year, Hyrox Founder and CEO Christian Toetzke, said, “We believe that in three to five years. we will be the world’s largest fitness sport with mainstream adoption and global penetration; between 500,000 and 1 million people racing each season.”
