Knox the Fox asks travel questions

I didn’t travel last week so I asked a few friends what do they ask before deciding where to travel?

Here are those six main questions and answers.

What is the No. 1 tourist destination in the United States?

  • Times Square in New York is the most visited destination with almost 42 million annual visitors.

What is the No. 1 vacation spot as opposed to tourist destination?

  • Hawaii is the most popular domestic vacation destination among Americans, with Las Vegas the second most popular.

What is the No. 1 international destination?

  • Six countries share the No. 1 rating: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain. France has topped the list so far in 2024 with over 100 million visitors, obviously influenced by the Paris Olympics.

What do the travel advisory levels mean so I know where not to travel?

  1. Exercise Normal Precautions
  2. Exercise Increased Caution
  3. Reconsider Travel
  4. Do Not Travel

Based on these advisories, where should I not travel in 2024: Iran, Iraq and Israel are at level 4 with Italy at a level 2. Here is the Travel Advisory List.

After travelers figure out where to go and how to get there, then one must decide where to stay: hotel, bed and breakfast or Airbnb.

Here are some differences between Airbnbs, hotels, and bed and breakfasts:

  • Type of accommodation: Airbnbs are private residences, while hotels are fully managed accommodations and bed and breakfasts are regulated like hotels.
  • Experience: Airbnbs like hotels are often just an address and door code, while bed and breakfasts offer a personalized experience with knowledgeable hosts.
  • Breakfast: Airbnbs usually don’t include breakfast, while bed and breakfasts may offer a hot breakfast or meal vouchers. Hotels may have a breakfast option.
  • Amenities: Airbnbs typically have a kitchen, sometimes stocked with coffee and tea.
  • Service: Airbnb hosts might not have any formal hospitality training.
  • Privacy: You might have to cook and clean for yourself at an Airbnb.
  • Cost: Airbnbs can be more cost-effective for stays longer than a week.
  • Travel Insurance: Travel insurance can be obtained for hotel, Airbnbs, and bed and breakfasts but be sure to read the fine print about exclusions.

Enjoy your travels and look for a cleverly sly fox that might be tagging along!
