iOS 18.0.1: Apple's Update Fixes These iPhone Security Issues and More

Apple released iOS 18.0.1 on Thursday, more than two weeks after the company released iOS 18. While that update brought many new features to your iPhone, like RCS messaging and the ability to customize your home screen, iOS 18.0.1 patches some security issues and squishes a few bugs.

Here are the issues and features iOS 18.0.1 should fix.

Security issues iOS 18.0.1 fixes

This update fixes two security issues on your iPhone. One has to do with Apple’s new Passwords app, and the other is in Messages.

According to Apple, iOS 18.0.1 fixes an issue in Passwords where the VoiceOver feature could read your saved passwords out loud.

Another issue iOS 18.0.1 addresses has to do with recording audio messages in Messages.

“Audio messages in Messages may be able to capture a few seconds of audio before the microphone indicator is activated,” Apple wrote online.

Other issues iOS 18.0.1 addresses

The update also fixes a few other problems on your iPhone. Based on Apple’s information, most of these kinks have to do with the iPhone 16 series, but a few other phone models could also be impacted.

One issue iOS 18.0.1 fixes is unresponsive touch screens on the iPhone 16 series. Apple wrote online that the touch screens of the new iPhones might be temporarily unresponsive in certain situations, and this update should address that. But it’s unclear in what situations the touch screen would be unresponsive.

Apple didn’t immediately respond to CNET’s request for comment.

Apple also wrote that iOS 18.0.1 should address a performance issue related to memory allocation that some iPhones might be experiencing.

Here are Apple’s release notes for iOS 18.0.1:

This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone including:

– Touch screen may be temporarily unresponsive in certain circumstances on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Models.

– Camera may freeze when recording macro mode video on the Ultra Wide Camera in 4K with HDR turned off on iPhone 16 Pro models.

– Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face.

– Performance may be impacted due to an issue with memory allocation on some iPhone models.
