Inside Iowa Politics: Why business leaders feel better about inflation but don’t plan to hire a lot of workers

DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) – Business leaders surveyed by the Iowa Business Council feel more confident about the economy and don’t feel as concerned about inflation.

Those are some of the findings of the Iowa Business Council’s 3rd Quarter Economic Outlook Survey. The IBC surveyed leaders of the 22 companies that belong to the organization.

The latest survey measured those leaders’ outlook on several issues. (Note: anything above 50 represents a positive sentiment.)

  • Sales expectations increased 2.11 points to a value of 60.0.
  • Capital spending expectations increased 2.30 points to a value of 56.25.
  • Employment expectations were essentially flat with a modest 0.2 point decline to a value of 53.75.

The latest federal report showed the strength of the national economy with 254,000 jobs added last month. Wages are rising 4% compared to last year, while inflation is rising at 2.2%.
