While Juventus coach Thiago Motta and director Cristiano Giuntoli refer to his career in the past tense, Paul Pogba feels he has a future in Turin and was in the stands for today’s game.

The midfielder has been out of action since he failed a standard doping test last year and was given a lengthy ban.

However, that was reduced on appeal this week to 18 months, meaning he could be available to play from March 2025.

This seemed to boost his confidence, as Pogba was spotted in the stands of the Allianz Juventus Stadium for this afternoon’s 1-1 Serie A draw against Cagliari.

The player was given a warm greeting by the fans and stayed behind after the final whistle to salute some of them.

However, the odds of Pogba getting to play for Juventus again are extremely slim, if the comments from the club are to be believed.

Both director Giuntoli and coach Thiago Motta used exactly the same wording when describing the World Cup winner’s situation: “He was a great player.”

They used the past tense, implying that when Pogba does receive the final appeal result from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, he will be asked to terminate his contract by mutual consent with Juventus.

His career could well continue in the United States with MLS clubs interested.
