World Champion Finally Responds After Terence Crawford Claimed He Got Knocked Out In Sparring – Seconds Out
Sebastian Fundora hasn’t taken too kindly to some comments made by Terence Crawford.
The two men look set to meet in a title unification in the near future, after the WBO announced they had been given a 10-day extension to continue negotiations.
Fundora became WBC and WBO super-welterweight champion with a split decision win over Tim Tszyu back in March, while Crawford defeated Israil Madrimov in August to win the WBA super-welterweight title.
‘Bud’ ruffled feathers last week when he claimed he had heard Fundora had previously been knocked out in sparring by Madrimov.
“If Fundora’s licking his chops over my performance with Madrimov, then I should be licking my chops because Madrimov knocked Fundora out in sparring. So who should be licking their chops? That’s what I heard.”
The 6’5″ southpaw has now hit back at that theory. In a post on X, Fundora shared a past interview where Madrimov was discussing the competitive spar, where he said Fundora was very technical and hard to hit. The 154lb champion attached a simple one word message.
“Respect.”
Fundora’s manager Sampson Lewkowicz also hit out at ‘Bud,’ telling Lance Pugmire that Crawford should be putting his focus elsewhere.
“The fight is already going to happen. It’s bad business for Crawford to be trying to make a unified world champion look bad by spreading stupid rumours. You’re 37 years old. Spend your time training instead. You’re going to need it.”
The planned fight between Crawford and Fundora appears to have ruled out the chance of seeing ‘Bud’ face Canelo Alvarez next, despite some very public callouts in recent months.
Crawford also surprised some onlookers this week when he announced he had been offered a fight with another huge name, but that he turned it down and has no intention to take it.
